Flight bags – Sizes for carry on luggage

Travel bags

Flight Bags. European airline cabin luggage sizes.

There has been some confusion regarding the sizing of carry on luggage allowed on flights. Here is a really brief summary and explanation.

The IATA in 2015 announced the rollout of a scheme called ‘CABIN OK’. The idea was to enable customers with the ‘CABIN OK’ logo on their bags to jump queue, and guarantee their luggage was accepted for carry on – (on planes with more than 120 seats). However, the adoption of the scheme wasn’t universal and so for now is paused.

We looked at adopting the scheme, because although we don’t carry pickaxes we do travel a lot and are incredibly impatient. . . being able to jump any queue is worth having a logo.

To clarify the IATA Cabin OK scheme looks like:

Working with airline members of IATA and aircraft manufacturers, an optimum size guideline for carry-on bags has been agreed that will make the best use of cabin storage space. A size of 55 x 35 x 20 cm (or 21.5 x 13.5 x 7.5 inches) means that theoretically everyone should have a chance to store their carry-on bags on board aircraft of 120 seats or larger.
