ride to work
If you’re new to riding, or are following advice to stay off public transport during lockdown you’re in the right place. Riding to work is different to riding for fun, you carry much more, you’re in a rush. You’ll have a work laptop, and probably a change of clothes if work doesn’t have a shower.
It’s no easy task to carry everything and stay safe, even more so if you’re new to the saddle. Here are a few ideas to keep organised.
Pickle Roll Top Backpack
Pickle, a larger backpack measuring approximately 25 litres in capacity has a unique roll top construction, favoured by cyclists for years. The expandable design has been honed to perfection by the design team at Cora + Spink who have combined the usefulness of a rolltop, with the security of full zip closure, plus hidden exterior laptop section and ample inside laptop slip pockets.
The roll top twin straps allow a jacket to be stowed outside the bag, whilst when full unfurled the bag can carry not just your work things (including a change of clothes) but also shopping, parcels and small animals.
A universal backpack perfectly suited to biking across town. Shown in Pea Green waxed canvas, which is water repellant, tactile and suits heavy usage. It should be mentioned here that all C+S backpacks are made to the highest ethical and sustainable standards in fully audited facilities.

Ten Ball Vegan Backpack
Ten Ball vegan backpack is a compact uniquely designed backpack designed with a purpose. The design features a contoured silhouette allowing it to sit flush to the back, whilst maintaining a brilliantly comfortable shape, with or without a laptop inside.
The diminutive size is somewhat an illusion as the internal shape allows for a range of modern (and not so modern) laptops to sit in comfort together with all of your other work items. It may not be able to hold a complete change of clothes, but we have extensively tested the functionality of Ten Ball not just as a daily commuter bag, but as a carry on long haul travel backpack.
Constructed from waxed canvas with a hand loom lining, 100% vegan and amazing.

A note from Tim:
When riding what you’re wearing and using should be balanced and unobtrusive, your clothes which includes your backpack must be balanced. By selecting the right kit from day one you will be safer and by knowing you’re safe, you will have more confidence to ride.
The technical aspects of a Cora + Spink backpack, namely double and triple stitched seams, 20 ounce waxed natural cotton canvas, real leather, solid metal accessories and hardware combined with award winning, fully audited, sustainable manufacturing processes makes for the ideal choice when starting out on the road.
