Pickle Bag Backpack

The rolltop backpack is a design classic. And it’s held its position as a mainstay of design for very good reasons; originally the rolltop design was a cheap, effective way to close a bag to prevent the weather getting in and things falling out. Of course, over time there have been developments in canvas technology, hardware manufacturing and changes in style desires, this is why we’ve developed Pickle.

Pickle was designed as a nod to classic backpacks from the 1950’s – where form and function rolled into one (no pun intended), but with a significant addition/amendment. Pickle features not just a roll top design to quickly and easily close the bag, but a full, and gusseted double zip closure, making Pickle fully extendable, secure in up or down position and therefore truly a beast of a bag. The gusseted design, allows the top to fully open, for 2 reasons, making neat packing when travelling easier (roll your clothes and stack neatly) as well as giving direct and clear access deep inside for awkwardly shaped or bulky items.

Modern additions to the design include an external large laptop pocket reached from the side/rear of the backpack. Internal slip pockets, also useful for work documents, laptops etc. together with a substantial zipped internal pocket.

Construction is using C+S rainproof waxed canvas, and lined with recycled cotton, sourced through government backed cooperatives, not 10 miles from our manufacturing facilities. Hardware throughout is metal, including all loops and zips, inside and out, whilst all seams are double stitched and bound for strength. Pickle is a really great sized backpack, used by many as a daily backpack that can extend perfectly for travel, shopping or extra kit.

Frequently asked questions.

The outside canvas has a unique water repellant treatment that makes the canvas rain proof. The natural and vegan process the canvas undertakes is ideal for all normal weather and conditions, it can also be further treated with Cora + Spink wax finishes. Over time the canvas will need to be topped up if you're outdoors lots. Please get in touch if you need more information.
We accept returns within 30 days where the product has not been used and is returned to us in the same condition (so we can sell it) as it arrived. This includes all straps, buckles, packaging, labels and other supplemental items included in the original sale. Please contact us directly to authorise and obtain a returns address. Full refund/returns policy is available here.
All C + S products are made by hand using natural materials. They are strong and robust, but do require care and attention to ensure they have a long and fulfilling life. We recommend removing mud and stains with a stiff brush, you can then use a damp cloth to gently remove any unwanted marks. Due to the nature of the material finish, you may encounter fading of the canvas - this is to be expected. Don't use harsh chemicals, and do not wash in a washing machine. Specialist cleaners can help - if you have a particularly difficult stain please contact us directly, and we will do our best to advise.
Short answer, absolutely yes. No animal products or by products are used in the production of the backpacks, this includes but is not limited to the glues and treatments, the inks, dyes and the waxes... the working environment where all the backpacks are made is exclusively used only for Core + Spink products, meaning we control all elements of production.

What others are saying.

Thank you for making this bag, I don't usually click adverts on facebook for stuff like this, but I'd recently seen Cora & Spink at the Botanical Gardens on holiday, this wasn't in the shop, but fell in love with the reddy wine colour. Perfect little bag for me.

Going back to university in a few weeks time I wanted a laptop bag. This works for me, and fits inside my backpack.

Have wanted to buy a gift for my wife, spotted this whilst travelling and picked it up. My eldest spotted it before I'd wrapped it up and ended up having it as her school bag - so will order another when it comes back in. Really like Tim's story.

Pickle is a decent sized bag, feels sturdy and strong. We will be testing this camping next week.

A small, but final delivery for 2023 has just landed. For the past 4 months we've been away in the shadows developing and working away to make everything we offer even better. Meaning that our actual production volume for the tail end of 2023 is less than we ideally would have liked... But means a stronger future for the workshop and us in general. In short we've invested heavily in raw materials that take over 4 months to make from start to finish. The investment was both in time and money, and means we will now be able to run continuous production all year around, rather than stop start as we have been for the past 3 years. In short this is much better for everyone, in business terms our accountant is happy, in practical terms we're working to iron out the massive peaks of demand... Which puts undue pressure on everyone. If you've got this far well done! I'm back to the warehouse...
