Bag Wax – Waterproof treatment to make your Bag or backpack Water Resistant again.
Made in England – Cora + Spink has been in the lab, literally… Although we always wanted to be hip-hop stars, this time we’ve been working with a chemist to formulate a wax treatment for canvas. That would be perfect for you to rewax and reproof your waxed bag or backpack (and jackets and trousers etc) to make it as good as or even better than new.
Waxing or re waxing your bag/backpack is a really easy job, perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or a Tuesday morning – it allows you to take time to check your backpack before longer journeys where waterproofing is essential. Cora + Spink Essentials Canvas Bag Wax is perfect for waxed and unwaxed canvas – and not just Cora + Spink backpacks. You can use the Essentials Canvas Wax on any natural cotton canvas that needs to be waterproofed.
The wax treatment is a solid wax paste that is specially formulated to rapidly absorb into the cotton canvas, penetrating deeply offering a long lasting water repulsion.
First make sure your backpack is clean. Remove mud and stains with a damp cloth. (washing up liquid can be used if really needed – but has a tendency to pull dye out of the canvas – the choice is yours, dark stain, or light stain?!?)
IMPORTANT – Steps to waterproofing your bag.
Allow your backpack to dry thoroughly, naturally if possible – it shouldn’t take too long in a heated house. Only hang the backpack by the cotton webbing handle, never the leather straps or dare I say it – the zip loops (people have – don’t ask but do read our blog post on weird customers… coming soon)
Take a clean cotton cloth, and gently dab into the paste, pulling enough onto the cloth to allow you to start rubbing the wax into the canvas. Spend time and attention at the seams working in sections to cover the backpacks panels one by one. In warmer climates, the wax should absorb with movement and friction – however, for a true professional finish a hair dryer can be used to melt the wax into the canvas faster.
RETREATMENT – How to wax your bag.
You can achieve different results by how often you choose to wax your backpack. A brand new Cora + Spink waxed canvas backpack is treated at the mill with what’s known as a dry touch paraffin wax finish, this finish is ideal for protection in rain showers etc. However, with the use of multiple rewaxings using Cora + Spink Essentials Canvas Wax your backpack will start to develop its own patina, something beautiful and offers even greater protection than before.
